On 29 April 2020, TIGA, the trade association representing the UK games industry, responded to DCMS’s consultation on producing and classifying sectorial economic estimates.
DCMS are in the process of reviewing how they estimate the economic impact of their sectors, and how they translate their sector definitions into statistical classification. The consultation seeks to understand the methods currently available to calculate economic measures, and to identify the transparent and robust methods to translate conceptual definitions of sectors into statistical definitions.
In its consultation response, TIGA highlighted the benefits of DCMS publishing its economic estimates and highlighted how the data gathering process could be improved to more accurately represent and reflect both small and large games studios across the UK.
