Sun, Games and Education at Develop:Brighton 2025

By July 10, 2025 No Comments

TIGA had a busy Develop:Brighton 2025, including taking part in the 4.00 p.m. panel on Tuesday on practical advice and information on games education.

TIGA CEO Dr Richard Wilson OBE’s fellow panelists included Gina Jackson OBE, Dr Jackie Mulligan at Develop, Andy Bossom 🔜 Develop Brighton and Dave Ranyard. Tom Cole, PhD 🔜 Develop, and Laurence Oldham did a sterling job organising and chairing the sessions.

We had some good questions and covered a range of issues. Key observations included:

✅ the importance of industry and university engagement to inform course curricula;
✅ employer investment in training;
✅ the need to replicate industry practices in education, especially interdisciplinary team work;
✅ the opportunity for studios to make the most of Video Games Expenditure Credit and R&D Tax Credits;
✅ how start-ups can potentially access funding, including via the UK Games Talent and Finance Community Interest Company, the British Business Bank and Innovate UK. You can find out more about the funding options for UK game developers on the TIGA website.
✅ participate in the TIGA Games Education and Industry Awards to showcase excellence and recognise the achievements of students and lecturers.

It was a pleasure to meet with Hope Caton 🔜 Develop Brighton and to meet some of the students from Kingston University, Norwich University of the Arts and University of Greenwich. Take a look at the TIGA Graduate Guide, available on the TIGA website.

Thank you Andy Lane and Ali Fearnley for Develop!
