The Department of Creative Technology, within the Faculty of Science and Technology, is seeking to appoint a talented, enthusiastic and motivated Principal Academic in the area of games design and/or development.

You will be an experienced academic with outputs in the key strategic areas of the BU 2018 Vision, which, at its core, involves the Fusion of education, research and professional practice.

You will have a strong research profile showing potential for contribution towards the next REF exercise, evidence of successful national and international research grant awards and also enterprise funding, leadership experience of research groups or equivalent, experience in supervising undergraduate/postgraduate/doctorate students, experience in managing post-award research projects, strong evidence of collaboration and engagement with the national/international games industry and, finally, leadership experience in the design and delivery of taught HE courses.

Applications with expertise in one (or more) of the following areas; mobile games development, 3D modelling and animation for games, game design, artificial intelligence in games, graphics programming and UX/HCI for games are particularly welcome.

This AAA studio is looking for a lead environment artist with a strong technical understanding of environment asset and level creation. You will be able to communicate with other disciplines within the development team and be able to take creative direction from the Art Director. Lead and mentor a team of individuals across the spectrum of experience. Develop a greater knowledge and understanding of advanced techniques used in video game development.

As a Lead Environment Artist you will:

Work collaboratively with project leadership other discipline leads to understand and interpret the game's requirements within the technical parameters of the platforms. 
Assist and support less experienced members of staff in their learning of good work practices, videogame technologies, software, art theory and the overall process of videogame production.
Work with technical artists and engineers in the development and streamlining of tools and processes.
Keep abreast of advanced techniques which could be used to improve the visual quality or production pipelines of current or future projects.
Maintain awareness of studio-wide art and development issues.
Maintain awareness of and disseminate information regarding organizational related structures, processes, plans and issues.

Requirements:

Thorough knowledge of the game development process.
Leadership experience working with cross discipline and external teams.
Must exhibit excellent artistic skill and the ability to adapt to different artistic styles.
Must demonstrate an excellent knowledge of relevant 2D and 3D software (Maya and Photoshop preferred).
Must be autonomous while working on set tasks from the schedule.
Must have the ability to problem solve and define best work practices within their assigned area of work.
A keen eye for spatial composition, lighting and building believable scenes.
An understanding of effective asset creation and optimization.
Excellent ability to create textures and work with complex shaders. 
Previous experience creating high quality environments for Xbox One, high end PC and/or PS4 games.
At least one AAA Title shipped
Strong communication skills.
High degree of self-motivation and initiative.
Organic terrain and hard surface modeling experience.
An avid gamer is a plus.
Experience in architecture, interior or industrial design, or level design is also a plus.

Who You Are:

6+ years professional experience in a similar role.

Expert knowledge of C# is essential.
Good knowledge of WPF/XAML.
Solid C++ experience and math skills.
