The TIGA-Accredited University of the West of Scotland is on the hunt for guest speakers to help prepare its students for their careers in the games industry – are you or your studio able to help?
UWS’s Games Development programme addresses the technical and aesthetical aspects of games development and design, but there are commonalities that potential guest speakers could accommodate.
Some useful topics and themes that would be of benefit for its game development students:
- Tips and advice on how to create a good portfolio (i.e., what employers in the games industry are looking for).
- The importance of meta-skills (soft skills) for working in the games industry.
- Skill sets required to be a good level designer (something related to level design principles).
- Advice about interviews when applying for games industry positions – e.g., an overview about technical interviews would also be good.
- A talk about someone’s journey into the games industry would also be useful – about their experiences and insights.
- Any roles relating to animation in games, concept art, environmental art.
- A talk about gameplay programming (C#, C++) would also be of interest – something about coding standards and practices.
- Games testing and the role of a QA tester.
