TIGA hails iPad

By January 29, 2010 Press Releases

TIGA, the trade association representing the UK games industry, today hailed the launch of Apple’s new iPad, welcoming its potential for creating further creative opportunities for game developers.

Paul Farley, CEO of Tag Games, said:

“The Apple iPad is another huge milestone in the move from games being consumed via physical retail to digital platforms. The iPhone is a hard act to follow, yet the impact of the iPad on the games industry could be equally as large. It is a distributive ‘game changer’ that heralds not only a new form factor for games and digital media consumption, but a further opportunity for innovative and creative games to be brought to market by independent UK game producers.””

Richard Wilson, CEO of TIGA, said:

“The iPad is a potentially exciting development for the games industry. As well its size and resolution, the iPad provides a new device for gaming, sitting between consoles and mobile platforms. It could provide a further fillip to smaller game developers as the cost for game development on this platform should be lower in comparison to console games.””

Jason Kingsley, Chairman of TIGA, CEO and Creative Director of Rebellion, said:

“The iPad creates further opportunities for game developers to provide exciting games on a new platform for new customers. I am confident that UK game developers will grasp this opportunity.””
