TIGA, the trade association representing the UK video game Industry has announced its list of finalists for the 2013 TIGA Awards, ahead of the ceremony on the evening of November 6th at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.

The public vote for the TIGA Game of the Year Award, sponsored by Edge, is also now open for entry. Please visit the TIGA Awards website here to cast your vote. The deadline for all votes is Monday 21st October at 5pm and entry is limited to one vote per person.

In addition to the shortlist of this years’ potential winners, TIGA has also announced the theme for its 2013 Game Developer Conference will be “Battle of the Platforms: Once More Unto The Breach”. The conference will be held prior to the awards ceremony, during the day of November 6th, also at Pinewood Studios, in Theatre Seven, the largest preview theatre in the UK.

TIGA held the first Battle of The Platforms event in 2012, and with the event proving so popular, with speakers and attendees alike commenting on the momentum it generated for the UK indie movement as a whole, the TIGA team has decided to bring it back for 2013.

The day will feature proponents of different platforms discussing which will prove the most important in 2014 and beyond. The UK’s top developers and digital publishers will also get to discuss their experiences of the different platforms, sharing practical advice on all the aspects of the self-publishing process and how to make a game successful both pre and post-launch. This will include marketing and PR, product visibility and lifecycle strategy, as well as QA, localisation, and global sales strategy.

Please note attendees to the awards ceremony qualify for a 5% discount on a combined awards & conference ticket. With limited places available, TIGA politely asks those that wish to attend, to book early to avoid disappointment.

Dr Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO, commented:

“As the network for developers and digital publishers, everyone in the TIGA team has been delighted to see the UK video game community respond so positively to this opportunity to showcase their work and gain due recognition for their achievements.

“This year has seen the TIGA Awards go from strength to strength, reflecting the continued rise in the importance of the independent developer sector, as well as the recognition of that importance by all of the UK games industry’s major players and platform owners.

“We’ve also seen our business of games categories proving increasingly popular, which is testament to the continued growth in both size and complexity of the video game ecosystem. And the increasingly important role of service providers, helping independent developers compete in a global marketplace.

“With excitement building towards the arrival of the next generation of Sony and Microsoft’s gaming machines, as well as continued innovation in the mobile, PC and portable console space, from the likes of PlayJam and Steam, this year’s Battle of The Platforms is set to as hard-fought and engaging as ever.

“Good luck to all those who have been shortlisted and thank you to everyone who entered and supported the 2013 TIGA awards.”
