UK developers to reveal new projects at TIGA’s Discovery Afternoon

By November 9, 2012 Press Releases

A selection of UK developers will reveal their newprojects at TIGA’s Discovery Afternoon on the 20th November, the eve
of the London Games Conference. The event will showcase some of the best
upcoming independent games, with the day split into two sessions. The first
session is designed to connect developers with investors and focuses on raising
finance. During the second session the developers will present their titles to
the UK games press in exclusive hands on sessions.

TIGA is hosting the event to help developers, many with
limited or no access to PR, to speak directly with the games press and get
their games into your hands. The line up of exclusives includes Colin Macdonald
with Channel 4, the Oliver Twins, Denki, nDreams, Legendary Games, 4T2, Atomicon,
Plant Pot, Boss Level Games and Nellyvision.

Patrick
O'Luanaigh, CEO, nDreams and Chair of the TIGA Self-Publishing Committee said:
“I'm
really excited about the TIGA Finance and Discovery events. Two of the biggest
challenges for the new breed of self-publishing studios are raising finance
(publishing is a cash-intensive business!) and raising awareness for their
games. This day is about both of those things – helping developers meet with
sources of finance, helping studios learn more about different kinds of finance
available and then putting journalists and studios together to showcase some of
the incredibly exciting new games that UK studios are creating.”

Ben Gunstone, Stainless Games is the Raising Finance
session’s Keynote speaker. He recently raised over $600,000 on the
crowd-funding website Kickstarter towards producing a follow-up to the
company's notorious blockbuster Carmageddon. “Kickstarter is a great way
for developers to reach out to the gaming community and mobilise the millions
of gamers who want to be more than passive consumers – who want to get involved
with products they love and help the development community make the games they
want to make – not just the games the publishers want them to make”,
commented Gunstone.

Mike Hawkyard, CEO of 4T2 and Chairman of TIGA's Casual
Game Committee, said:
 “Discovery
is the single most important factor for indie’s.  It does not matter how good a game you
produce without discoverability you may never succeed.  Apple do a fantastic job at promoting a wide
range of games, but if you launch in a month that has numerous major titles
being launched, you run the risk of being lost.”

TIGA
have hand picked a selection of high quality titles from independent studios
that can't yet afford a significant marketing campaign and running this event
to help them gain press coverage.

Our
job at TIGA is to help game studios flourish. We also understand the deadlines
and pressure the games media are under to create a newsworthy story.  We hope this initiative helps both groups and
would welcome feedback on how to do more.”

Dominic Morley, Managing Director in Panmure Corporate
Finance Team said:
“Panmure
Gordon is very much looking forward to hosting TIGA's conference on financing
in the gaming sector. We have a long tradition of bringing dynamic and
innovative companies to market and supporting listed companies with further
fundraising to support growth.”
