TIGA has been awarded Silver for its University Accreditation System at the Association Excellence Awards 2018.

TIGA introduced its accreditation process in January 2015 to ensure that universities and colleges can produce graduates with industry relevant skills. To help prospective students make the right choices, TIGA University Accreditation accredits the very best undergraduate and postgraduate university courses enabling both prospective students and game developers to identify those courses that are produci ng industry ready graduates.

All TIGA Accredited courses teach skills required by the games industry. To ensure this, courses are examined by a panel of industry and academic experts to ensure that students are developing games industry skills as well as transferable skills important to the games industry.

The Association Excellent Awards recognise and award the hard-won achievements of UK trade bodies, professional membership organisations and associations. Its panel of judges are drawn from every sector. The judges recognised TIGA’s University Accreditation system under the Best Certification Programme category.

TIGA has accredited video games courses at the following universities:

  • Anglia Ruskin University
  • University Of Portsmouth
  • Norwich University of the Arts
  • Sheffield Hallam University
  • Bournemouth University
  • University Of The West Of England
  • Staffordshire University
  • City University London

The Association Excellence Awards Judging Panel 2018 commented:

“TIGA have brought their industry knowledge and expertise to bear in creating a University Accreditation System which will be of huge value to those wishing to pursue careers in the gaming industry.  With higher education being so expensive it is vital that students wishing to enter this hi-tech sector have the right guidance.

“It is also vital for TIGA’s members to have access to a steady supply of appropriately skilled and trained individuals. The benefits to their associated and accredited academic institutions are also clear.”

Dr Richard Wilson OBE, Chief Executive Officer of TIGA, stated:

“We are delighted to have won the award for our University Accreditation Scheme. This is testament to the hard work of the TIGA team, the board and our Education Committee, with particular thanks to Dr Mark Eyles our education adviser and Principal Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth.

“We look forward to continuing our work with the Government to ensure that the UK is the best place in the world for video games companies. To achieve this objective, our accreditation programme helps employers access industry ready graduates with the right skills for a long and fulfilling career in the video games industry.”
