TIGA to Introduce New Education Matching Service

By October 31, 2011 Press Releases

TIGA to
Supply Guest Lecturers from the UK Games Industry to Higher Education

TIGA, the trade association representing the
UK games industry, will be introducing a new matching service connecting TIGA
university and college members with guest lecturers from the UK games industry.
TIGA have built up a pool of industry practitioners to serve as guest lecturers
in TIGA university/college members. This will intensify industry-academia links,
promote knowledge transfer and enhance the quality of higher education
provision, ultimately benefiting students and the wider games industry. Some
universities and colleges do not currently have strong connections with the
games industry. This new matching service will help to address this problem.

The new matching service for TIGA education
members will come into operation from November 1st 2011. TIGA education
members will be able to view the list of available guest lecturers on the
members’ area of the TIGA website at www.tiga.org

Industry guest lecturers will be available
from the following disciplines and areas: art, animation, audio, production,
programming, QA, careers, mobile/social/online, and the industry.

Lorna
Evans, TIGA’s Education Manager, will connect guest lecturers with  education providers based on their specific
needs.

Dr
Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO, said:

“The UK video games
industry competes on the basis of its highly skilled workforce. The TIGA
education matching service will strengthen education-industry links, promote
opportunities for knowledge sharing and further enhance the quality and
offering of higher education.” TIGA’s new service will benefit the video games
industry, students and universities and colleges.”

Colin
Macdonald, from eeGeo Games, said:

“If the Scottish and
wider UK video games industry is to be the best in the world, then industry and
education providers need to work closely together. This TIGA initiative will cement
links between developers and educators and will be of great benefit to
students.”

Garry
Taylor, Audio Director, Sony, said:

“TIGA’s education matching
service will not just help universities. It will also benefit the UK video
games industry. It will enable participating developers to identify prospective
employees and to learn more about developments in higher education.”

Dr. Mike Reddy,
Future Technology, Games Development and A.I., Faculty of Arts and Business,
University of Wales, Newport, said:

“Industry
and academia have much to learn from each other. TIGA’s education service will
help to strengthen links between higher education and industry, benefiting both
parties. I strongly support this idea.”

Dr
Louis Natanson, Academic Director of the Institute of Arts, Media and Computer
Games at AbertayUniversity, said:

“Abertay University
has strong relationships with the local industry. This helps to make our
courses some of the best in the UK. TIGA’s initiative will help more
universities to provide excellent courses, to the benefit of students and the
wider games industry.”
