TIGA, the trade association representing the UK games industry, today released new research about the mobile games market showing that the mobile games software market was worth $7.9 billion in 2011 and is projected to grow to over $12 billion in 2013. The TIGA and Games Investor Consulting (GIC) Report, Mobile Games Briefing, is published in advance of TIGA’s Smartphone and Tablet Conference taking place on Friday March 30th in London.
Dr Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO, said:
“The mobile games and tablet market offers great opportunities for UK developers and digital publishers. There are already 134 British games businesses making games for mobile in the UK today, providing work for nearly 960 highly skilled development staff and contributing £98.5 million to UK GDP. In 2011 these studios released or updated 460 titles.
“The growing mobile games market provides exciting prospects for UK studios. For example, as smartphones and tablets evolve into powerful game platforms, top tier mobile games are increasingly resembling console games. The use of high resolution, 3D games environments and core genres on mobile means that UK studios are well suited to such projects, not least given the UK’s significant experience in console development.
“The challenges and opportunities facing UK studios in the mobile and tablet space will be discussed and analysed at the TIGA Smartphone and Tablet Conference on March 30th in London.”
The TIGA-GIC Mobile Games Briefing is available for free for TIGA members. For information about TIGA’s Smartphone and Tablet Conference, please see: https://www.tiga.org/events/tigas-2nd-smartphone-and-tablet-conference-2012
