TIGA Launches Fact Finding Committee into Freemium Games and In-App Purchases

By April 12, 2013 Press Releases

TIGA,the association representing developers and digital publishers, announced today
that it would organise a fact-finding committee and seminar to gather
information about in-game marketing and business models, to ensure that the
views of the industry are effectively represented vis-à-vis the Office of Fair
Trading (OFT). TIGA made the announcement following the decision by the OFT to investigate
whether apps that can be freely downloaded from Apple or Google owned online
stores have “unfairly pressured” children, to pay for additional content.

Dr
Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO, said:

“TIGA is
determined to ensure that the views of developers and digital publishers are
effectively represented vis-à-vis the OFT. We plan to organise a fact finding
seminar and committee to ascertain the industry’s views and to
articulate them to the OFT and policy makers generally. I hope that as many
developers and digital publishers as possible will take part.”

The
Committee will be led by Jason Kingsley OBE, TIGA Chairman and CEO and Creative
Director at Rebellion.

TIGA is
encouraging developers and digital publishers who want to take part in the
seminar to register their details with Suzi Stephenson at: suzi@tiga.org
