TIGA welcomes John Whittingdale’s re-election as chair of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee
TIGA, the trade association representing the UK games industry, warmly welcomes the re-election of John Whittingdale OBE MP as the Chair of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee. During his time in Parliament, he has recognised the importance of the video games sector, and his experience and knowledge will be of great value in his continued chairmanship of the Select Committee.
TIGA acknowledges that John Whittingdale OBE MP has a sound understanding of the major challenges facing the video games sector, recently stating, ‘I very much support TIGA’s call for Game Tax Relief, the retention of the Small Firms R&D tax credit scheme, and a general lowering of the tax burden on UK businesses as a whole.’
Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO stated:
“I am delighted that somebody with a strong understanding of the challenges faced by the video games industry has been re-elected by his fellow parliamentarians to serve as the Chair of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee. John is an excellent, well-respected parliamentarian with a great understanding of the issues facing the sector. I am looking forward to working with Mr Whittingdale to address the challenges the industry faces, including the number one issue of the implementation of Games Tax Relief that would allow the UK video games industry to compete on a level playing field with our overseas competitors. “”
