On 27 July 2020, the ICO updated their statement on the judgement of the European Court of Justice in the Schrems II case.

The CJEU have confirmed how EU standards of data protection must travel with data when it goes overseas. This means that the judgement in the Schrems II case has wider implications than just the invalidation of the EU-US privacy shield, and is a judgement that confirms the importance of safeguards for personal data transferred out of the UK.

The ICO’s updated statement on this judgement can be read in full here.
