The Government launches call for evidence on video game loot boxes

Today, on 23 September 2020, the Government launched a call for evidence on the impact of loot boxes in video games. The call for evidence is designed to examine concerns that loot boxes may encourage or lead to problem gambling.

The call for evidence is targeted at two groups with separate questions for each group:

  • Video games players aged 16+ and adults responsible for children and young people who play video games; and
  • Video games businesses, and researchers and organisations interested in video games and loot boxes.
