By Dr Richard Wilson –

The UK video games industry is a success story: it contributes £1.2 billion to UK GDP, it employs thousands of highly skilled people and it is export focused.

One of the unsung heroes of the UK games development sector is Quality Assurance (QA). The QA sector plays a critical role in making games successful, enjoyable and exportable. Here in the UK we have a thriving QA sector that leads the world. That in part reflects the quality of our games development sector, but equally comes from our long heritage of professional quality assurance. The UK is fortunate to have first class, experienced and innovative QA companies including Gamebench, Testology and Universally Speaking.

There is much to be gained from a better understanding of QA convention, practice and advancements. So TIGA has published a report, Discipline Spotlight: Key Trends in QA, which, amongst other things, provides advice for games developers who are building a QA strategy.
