The Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA) have this week released data that shows that Gaming is officially the UK’s most successful entertainment sector of the 21st century.
ERA’s research further shows that since 2000, the UK games sector has grown to 4.5 times its previous size. ERA attribute this astronomic growth to the rise of mobile and digital gaming.
The data shows that at beginning of the century, gaming was the smallest of the three sectors that ERA represents: gaming, video, and music. Based on 2020 data, it is now by far the largest.
At 47.8% of all of ERA’s sectors combined, gaming is almost as big as the video and music sectors put together.
The data was released alongside the Beyond Games conference which ERA is holding this week.
