GTA5 will shine a light upon the UK games industry

By February 7, 2013 Press Releases

TIGA, the trade association representing the UKgames industry, says estimates suggesting Grand Theft Auto 5 will sell more
than 18 million copies shows the impact the UK gaming industry can have on the
rest of the world. The attention that it will generate will shine a light on
the UK games industry at large.

GTA5 by Edinburgh-based Rockstar Games is one of the
most hotly anticipated games of 2013 and it builds upon a gaming heritage at a
Scottish developer with a long pedigree that also includes Lemmings in its
earlier DMA guise.

The game, according to Sterne Agee analyst Arvind
Bhatia, is said to have cost $137.5m to make and will cost between $69m and
$109.3m to market. It is predicted that the game will make an operating profit
of $230m.

TIGA says that the attention generated by GTA5 will
shine a light on the rest of the UK games industry: its studios, its teams and
its economic potential.

Dr Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO, said:
“GTA5 is one of
those titles that gets everyone very excited and shines a light on the UK video
games industry.  It shows the world that
the UK has the creativity and talent to make great games. It shows the economic
potential of the game development sector. It generates interest in the
achievement and potential of other studios throughout the UK.”
