Government commits to supporting growth in the UK Games Sector

On Monday 28 February the Government answered a written question about introducing a video games investment fund. The question asked by Justin Tomlinson, Conservative MP for North Swindon, enquired into the Government’s plans to introduce a video games investment fund in the UK. The Government committed to supporting the sector through the expansion of the UK Games Fund.

Justin Tomlinson: To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, what assessment he has made of the potential merits of the proposal by The Independent Game Developers’ Association to introduce a Video Games Investment Fund.

Julia Lopez: The government is committed to supporting the growth of the UK’s games sector. As part of a wider package of support for the creative industries, the government has announced an £8 million expansion of the UK Games Fund. The UK Games Fund will provide valuable support to early stage games development businesses and talented graduates throughout the UK.

We are not seeking to take forward a proposal for a new Video Games Investment Fund. We welcome continued discussions with the games industry on how best to support a thriving UK games sector.
