A new book called Gaming for Good, written by Jude Ower, Founder and CEO of Playmob, and Mathias Gredal Nørvig, CEO of Subway Surfers creator SYBO, is seeking to unlock the power of gaming to create a better world for us all.
Every copy sold will contribute to climate positive projects through green games specialist and TIGA member PlanetPlay, which sponsored the book.
Gaming for Good sets out to demystify gaming, gaming culture and gamers, giving a snapshot of the world of gaming today, and some examples of how games can be good. It gives some current examples of movements such as the Playing for the Planet Alliance and how entertainment games are integrating impact activations, to harness over 3 billion gamers to take action for causes.
Ower explains: “This has been a movement building for a while, yet it amazes me how games are still very misunderstood and in some cases deemed ‘bad’. I wanted to set things straight and show some brilliant examples of how games can be good, and just how we go about making a difference while we play.”
Nørvig added: “We have the most downloaded game in the world and with that comes a big responsibility. We have noticed that our players want to take action for things they care about, whether it be for climate action as we did recently with music phenomenon J Balvin, or supporting LGBTQ communities. And using games for good has been a passion of mine for years, so writing about this topic with Jude was a really important step in building this movement and making sure our industry moves in the right direction.”
