Amazon Kindle reputation will provide game opportunities

By September 7, 2012 Press Releases

TIGA, the trade association representing the UK games industry, saysthe strong reputation of Amazon's Kindle will help fire the sales of tablet
computers and provide more opportunities for games developers.

Amazon has announced its new larger-screen Kindle Fire which will be cheaper
than the Apple iPad. The lower price and the fact that millions of Kindle
owners will consider upgrading to the colour tablet computer will, says TIGA,
accelerate the number of tablet devices being sold.

Amazon says it hopes to use the tablet to encourage consumers to shop in its
online store. This opens up a great opportunity for games developers to ensure
they have a presence on Amazon's Kindle marketplace. Given that millions will
already be familiar with buying from Amazon, consumers will be encouraged to
make purchases.

Dr Richard Wilson, CEO of TIGA, said:

“There is considerable growth in the tablet
computing sector driven by strong competition between Apple, Google and Amazon
(and soon Microsoft) attempting to entice consumers. The reputation of all of
these is ensuring a high take-up of tablets. Amazon’s emphasis on the actual
purchasing of content should be highly beneficial to games developers and
digital publishers. People who buy these inexpensive devices will be looking
for content for them and it is a great opportunity for games developers and
digital publishers to ensure they put their products in front of consumers.
These are exciting times.”
