TIGA, the trade association representing the video games industry, today revealed Abertay as the Sponsor of the ‘Best Educational Institution’ at the TIGA Games Industry Awards 2021.
Professor Gregor White, Dean of School of Design & Informatics
Abertay University, said:
“Abertay University is delighted to be sponsoring this year’s TIGA Awards. As a modern university with a strong focus on preparing work-ready graduates, we believe it’s important to recognise the massive contribution the games sector makes to both the UK’s culture and its economy – and the TIGA Awards are a great way of doing that.
“Abertay is world-renowned as the first University to offer degrees in games design, and we are very proud to have been ranked the top institution in Europe for games courses for the last seven consecutive years. Giving our students experience of an industry environment is absolutely key to their future success, and that’s something we ensure for all of our graduates through industry-led projects, cross-disciplinary coursework challenges, game design competitions like Dare Academy and many other routes.
“We have maintained our leading position in the HE sector by continually evolving with the demands of industry and also by prioritising research and development, taking a lead role in bringing forward projects such as the InGAME (Innovation for Games and Media Enterprise), the upcoming Dundee Esports arena and the city’s new 5G testbed rollout. Supplying the talent pipeline to the UK games industry is a responsibility we take seriously and the success of the University is very much linked to the talent, drive and ambition for excellence that this innovative and creative sector shows year in, year out.”
Dr Richard Wilson OBE, TIGA CEO, said: “TIGA really appreciates Abertay University sponsoring the TIGA UK Games Industry Awards 2021. Abertay’s games degree courses are TIGA accredited, award winning and world- renowned. Abertay is at the leading edge of games education and it is a pleasure to work the university.”
