On the 21 June 2021, the Department for Education responded to a written question on post-16 skills training.
The question, asked by Labour (Co-op) MP for Huddersfield, Barry Sheerman, inquired into what proportion of the Department for Education’s budget was spent on providing post-16 skills training in each of the last 3 years.

Mr Barry Sheerman: To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what proportion of his Department’s budget has been spent on providing post-16 skills training in each of the last three years.
Gillian Keegan: 14% of the department’s total resource budget has been spent on post-16 education and skills training in each of the financial years 2020-21, 2019-20 and 2018-19. This includes spending on core 16-19 funding, the Adult Education Budget, apprenticeships and other measures to support post-16 education and skills. It excludes spending on higher education and funding for post-16 pupils in schools.
In relation to capital funding, the department is increasing its investment in post-16 education and skills over the next few years. In 2020-21, the department provided £200 million to all further education (FE) colleges to allow them to tackle their remedial condition improvement projects. The FE Capital Transformation Programme will follow up this initial investment over the coming 5 years, investing an additional £1.3 billion in upgrading the FE college estate.
