On 20 May 2020, the Culture Secretary, Rt Hon Oliver Dowden CBE MP, announced the formation of a new Cultural Renewal Taskforce.
The taskforce will work on getting the country’s recreation, culture and leisure industries running again, and will support the renewal of the DCMS sectors following the impact of the coronavirus crisis. The Cultural Renewal Taskforce will be one of five new ministerial-led taskforces aiming to help rebuild Britain.
The task force will be chaired by the Secretary of State for DCMS, and the key work of the task force will be as follows:
- ensuring that COVID-19 secure guidelines are developed in line with the phasing ambitions and public health directions, building on the existing (work settings) guidance and providing intelligence and sector-specific expert input
- developing creative solutions, including digital solutions, to drive the return of sectors whilst maintaining consistency with the medical advice
- agreeing and ensuring alignment of all relevant sectoral guidance
- providing key sector stakeholders direct access to ministers
The first meeting of the taskforce will take place on Friday 22 May and will occur on a weekly basis.
