TIGA welcomes 8-Bit Studio as its latest member

By October 10, 2014 Press Releases

Studio’s first game, SKARA – The Blade Remains due to hit Steam early access in autumn

TIGA, the network for developers and digital publishers in the UK, has offered a warm welcome to its latest member, new indie developer 8-Bit Studio.

8 Bit Studio’s first game will be called SKARA – The Blade Remains, the world’s first free-to-play MOV (Multiplayer Online Versus Game) which combines the feel of a fighting game with the thrill of multiplayer battle and the depth of an RPG with the rush of an action game.

SKARA will also be one of the first games developed with Unreal 4, allowing a relatively small indie team to make a AAA looking title, with arenas where as many as 16 players can fight each other at the same time.

To find out more about the game, visit the site here, watch the trailer here, and also visit the game’s Kickstarter page, following its successful campaign in July to raise more than $35,000.

8-Bit Studio was founded by Cesar Ortega and Pablo Rodriguez in late 2012, and grew quickly to a handful of dedicated developers and is now made up of a team of 15 people from all over the world. Together they have the experience of working on hundreds of games and have come together to make something genuinely new.

Taking encouragement from the positive reaction to their earlier work and achievements at E3 2013 in LA, the team has kept going to get SKARA to the point where it represents what the studio is all about – games for gamers, by gamers, where you have to count on your skills, not your stats, to win.

Part of that ethos is to include the gaming and development community as much as possible in their creative and production process, as demonstrated by the popular open forum on SKARA’s website.

SKARA was approved to publish on Steam Greenlight after only eight days, and got as high as 5th on IndieDB. The team are now planning to launch Steam Early Access for SKARA in autumn, and are also developing the game for Xbox One and PS4.

Cesar Ortega, CMO, 8-bit Studio, comments:
“The United Kingdom was the most attractive place for us to base our start-up. The various incentives provided by the government coupled with the thriving gaming community made it a no-brainer. 8-bit Studio is joining TIGA to help make a greater contribution to that community as we grow as a company.”

Dr Richard Wilson, CEO, TIGA, added:
“We offer a warm welcome to Cesar and Pablo, and the rest of the 8-Bit Studio team. As the network for developers and digital publishers in the UK, TIGA can provide the networking opportunities and support to help them grow, and help ensure the studio’s work gets the recognition it deserves.

“SKARA looks to be an excellent debut game, and I applaud 8-Bit’s ambition and vision for the project, and wish them the very best of luck.”
