TIGA announces Leap 2014: How can you ensure more of your videogame students make the jump to employment straight out of University?

By September 30, 2014 Press Releases

TIGA, the network for videogame developers and digital publishers in the UK, together with The University of Southampton, is hosting a new half-day education-focused event on October 16th in London, called Leap 2014.

Leap 2014 is designed to provide university game development course leaders with the opportunity to engage with heads of recruitment at the UK’s top videogame development studios.

The event will also address what the future holds for the art & science of education in the UK videogame industry.

If you are a course leader, you can find out exactly what HR and studio heads need from a graduate to be able to say – you’re hired!

It will also be an opportunity for course leaders to be heard by games industry leaders regarding how they can help you create more effective, attractive and cutting edge game development courses.

Leap 2014 will follow a roundtable and panel Q&A format, and topics covered will include:

  • How do you provide a course that will attract students?
  • How do you help ensure more students find work after completing their studies?
  • Where do your students skills and your course material fit best? Is what you are teaching more relevant to a mobile or console focused studio?
  • How can we prepare students for the hiring process and studios’ employment criteria?
  • What can you do to get developers feedback and involvement on your courses?

Confirmed Speakers include:

Attendees are asked to arrive to register at 1pm for a 1.30pm start; the event will finish at 5:30pm followed by free networking drinks.

Tickets are free for TIGA members, and £50 for non-members.

The venue will be the offices of Edwards Wildman Palmer UK LLP, Dashwood, 69 Old Broad Street, London, EC2M 1QS

Places will be limited so attendees are politely asked to register here as soon as possible.

Dr Richard Wilson, CEO, TIGA, comments:

“TIGA’s goal is to strengthen the UK videogame industry and help create a business environment that’s conducive to success on the global stage. Our education members are absolutely integral to our efforts on this front.

“If our industry is to capitalise on its recent resurgence it is essential that business and education come together to share their requirements, insights and aspirations.

“Moreover, there are few more pressing challenges than how we can increase the number of videogame industry graduates that are finding jobs in the sector upon graduation.

“I’d like to thank Winchester School of Art for supporting Leap 2014, and encourage every single one of our education members, and indeed course leaders across the UK, to come along and take part in what looks to be a promising and positive afternoon event.”
