TIGA Announces Initiatives to Support Indie Developers

By November 14, 2011 Press Releases

TIGA, the trade
association representing the UK games industry, today announced three
initiatives to help start-up developers and small development studios in the
UK: a policy meeting at the House of Commons focusing on start-ups; a mobile,
tablet and handheld conference; and a new PR service, whereby all new TIGA
members receive a free consultation from PR experts to advise them on marketing
their games.

TIGA made the announcement following the publication of its
report, State of the UK Game Development
Sector 2011, which highlighted the continuing shift towards self-publishing
independent development studios, away from the traditional work for hire
practice.

  • On Tuesday 15th
November, TIGA and Microsoft will be holding an event at the House of
Commons focused on ‘Dynamic entrepreneurs: supporting start-ups in the UK
games industry’. 30 people from indie development studios, including Oli
Christie from Neon Play, Richard Hill-Whittall from Icon Games and Trevor
Williams from Playground Games will be meeting with MPs to celebrate the
industry and to discuss ways to help more independent developers set up
    and grow their studios.

  • On November 25th,
    TIGA holds its ‘Mobile,
Tablet & Handheld Gaming Conference 2011’, which will examine industry
trends, look at new ways to promote games, protecting IP, monetisation,
and building commercial relationships with operators and publishers.

  • A new PR Service, whereby all new TIGA
members receive a free consultation from PR experts including Quite Great
    PR.

Dr. Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO:

“As
the only relevant trade association run by developer for developers, TIGA is
focused on the issues that matter to developers. These three initiatives
demonstrate that TIGA is influencing policy at the highest level, has an eye on
the future direction of the industry and is developing innovative services to
enable our members to grow their businesses.”

Georgina
Mackenzie, TIGA board member and CEO of independent developer Toytek, said:

“As
the TIGA board is run by developers for developers, we understand the issues
facing indie-developers, start-ups and games developers generally. These new
initiatives demonstrate that TIGA is focused on enabling our highly skilled and
creative developers to fulfil their potential.”
