The ICO publishes guidance on AI and data protection

On 30 July 2020, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) published guidance on AI and data protection.

The guidance is a framework for auditing AI, focusing on best practices for data protection compliance. It provides a methodology to auditing AI applications and ensuring that they process personal data fairly, comprising of:

  • Auditing tools and procedures that the ICO will use in audits and investigations
  • Detailed guidance on AI and data protection
  • A toolkit to provide practical support to organisations auditing the compliance of their own AI systems
