Our Video Games Industry and Migration Policy

By September 27, 2018 Press Releases

The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) recently recommended to the UK Government that employers should have to provide a salary of at least £30,000 before being able to apply for a visa with which to recruit skilled Tier 2 overseas workers. This proposal would affect EU workers as well as workers from the rest of the world following Brexit.

TIGA plans to engage with the Government and the MAC to show that this salary threshold is not appropriate for the UK video games industry. The relatively high £30,000 threshold is not based on video games industry evidence, would increase business costs and potentially restrict the ability of employers to recruit skilled overseas workers.

If we are to make an effective case to Government, then we need high quality data on salaries in our industry as soon as possible. Therefore, I am inviting you to consider participating in this year’s TIGA Salary Survey.  By taking part in this project, you will enable our industry to influence the UK’s future migration system. You will also receive a high-quality report written by a trusted third party with data on employee salaries, benefits, demographics, turnover and attrition.  All data relating to employees is anonymised in the final report.

With eight years of data and a credible, robust and significant, sample size, the TIGA Salary Survey provides an established, comprehensive and trustworthy source of critical market data for the participating companies.

Preparations for the ninth TIGA Salary Survey are now underway. Companies interested in participating should contact Suzi Stephenson at: suzi@tiga.org by October 3rd 2018.

Thank you.

Best wishes,

Dr Richard Wilson OBE
