HTML5 is perfect for UK indie devs

By July 9, 2012 Press Releases

Developers using HTML5 will be able to open a whole new market when the newFirefox Mobile OS is unveiled, says TIGA, the trade association representing
the UK games industry.

The TechRadar website has reported that 75 per cent of all apps in Google Play
and the Apple App Store are written in HTML5.  These will
be easily ported to the Firefox Mobile OS when it becomes available. The website also reports that Mozilla is currently building its own market
place for apps.

Dr Richard
Wilson, CEO of TIGA, says:
“HTML5
is a great web standard which opens up opportunities. We've said before that
game developers for mobile phone are at a certain advantage over some platforms
due to a simple path to market and relatively low-risk, lower-cost development.

“Being
able to produce apps that can be easily ported from one OS to another creates a
chance for extra revenue. The destiny of the games industry is in the hands of
developers rather than traditional publishers and in selling direct, the UK
will become a vibrant and lucrative industry with the profits going to the
right talent.”
