The Government has outlined plans to help cut energy bills for businesses. A new Government scheme will cut energy prices for non-domestic energy customers such as businesses, charities and public sector organisations. The Government has said it plans to work with suppliers will reduce wholesale energy costs and the significant rises in bills that businesses have seen.

The new Government scheme will fix gas and electricity prices for six months starting on 1 October. Wholesale prices are expected to be set for all non-domestic energy customers at £211 per MWh for electricity and £75 per MWh for gas. The discount will automatically be applied to bills, so there will be no need to contact the supplier.

It is understood the scheme will be reviewed after three months and extended support may be granted to vulnerable businesses but it is not known what sectors will come under that category.
