Employers eligible for £1000 cash boost for every T Level student placement

The Department for Education has today, 27 May, launched a new scheme that will allow employers to claim a £1,000 cash boost for every T Level student they host on a high-quality industry placement.

T-Levels are the Government’s new technical qualifications. They have been co-created with over 250 employers. The courses, equal to three A-Levels, focus on combining classroom study with industry placements.

Industry placements form a key component of T Level courses, with students spending at least 45 days (or 315 hours) with an employer. These placements allow students to gain practical experience and invaluable insight into the world of work.

The Government’s new incentive fund has been designed to support employers to continue to host placements following the pandemic. Under the scheme, employers can claim up to 20 students for the currently available T Level subject areas. Employers can claim from 27 May until 22 July 2022.

This fund complements the Employer Support Package which is already available. The Support Package provides online guidance, case studies and workshops and an Invitation to Tender will be launched this summer.

Following the opening of the first three T Levels in September 2020, a further seven will be available from 2021. These subjects include Healthcare, Science and Onsite Construction.

Also published today is a new Employer Guide to help businesses understand how to host an industry placement, including details on what is expected of them during the placement.
