Government publishes ‘Creative Industries Sector Vision’

The UK Government has published its ‘Creative Industries Sector Vision,’ incorporating several recommendations from the Communications and Digital Committee’s report ‘At risk: our creative future.’ These include: 

  1. Prioritised funding for Creative Industries Clusters: The Committee recommended prioritizing funding for Creative Industries Clusters that have shown value for money and exceeded expectations in promoting innovation, attracting co-investment, and fostering SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) growth. The Government has embraced this recommendation, recognizing the importance of supporting these clusters.

  2. Improved early career routes for young people: The Committee called for enhanced early career routes for young individuals interested in working in the creative industries. The Government has acknowledged the need for improved pathways and has committed to taking steps to address this issue.

  3. Boosting support for businesses through the Create Growth Programme: The Committee recommended scaling up the Create Growth Programme to provide increased support for creative industry businesses. The Government has recognized the value of this program and has committed to expanding it to further assist businesses in the sector.

  4. Supporting skills development and lifelong learning: The Committee emphasized the significance of skills development and lifelong learning in the creative industries, particularly in light of technological advancements. The Government has incorporated this recommendation into the Sector Vision, highlighting the importance of supporting skills initiatives and ensuring that the creative industries can harness the benefits of technological change.

  5. Demonstrating senior political leadership and commitment: The Committee stressed the need for senior political leadership and commitment to the creative industries. The Government has acknowledged this recommendation, recognizing the potential of the creative sector as a priority for economic growth.
