TIGA said today that the UK Games Fund was having a demonstrable impact on the video games sector. This justified both TIGA’s campaigns in favour of more Government support for the UKGF and the Government’s decision to back the Fund via the Games Growth Package.
TIGA made the comments in response to the latest DCMS evaluation of the UK Games Fund, published 18th July 2025.
Key findings from new evaluation include:
- The current three-year iteration of the UKGF will generate in the range of £30m to £58m in productivity benefits for the UK economy. When set against the costs of delivery, this represents a benefit-cost ratio (BCR) of between 3.8 and 7.3, with a central estimate of 4.8.
- UKGF support was associated with an eight-percentage-point increase in the probability of beneficiaries having developed a prototype or video game after one year of funding.
- Every £10k of funding is associated with a five-percentage-point increase in the probability of generating reusable assets or code after one year of receiving funding
- UKGF-funded companies surveyed leveraged an additional £18.2m in funding, which exceeds the total £13m invested into the fund.
- A large majority (80%) of beneficiaries agreed or strongly agreed that the UKGF support had reduced the risk level of their video game project.
Dr Richard Wilson OBE, TIGA CEO, said:
“This new research shows that the UK Games Fund is boosting productivity, helping start-ups to develop prototypes and games and enabling studios to raise finance. This research vindicates TIGA’s campaign to retain and boost the UK Games Fund, including in our submissions to the Modern Industrial Strategy consultation in November 2024 and the Spending Review in February 2025. It also supports the Government’s £30 million Games Growth Package, announced in the Creative Industries Sector Plan which includes more support for the UK Games Fund.
“Congratulations to the team at UK Games Fund for helping studios to grow, develop new games and strengthen the UK games development sector.”
