TIGA’s games industry research cited in The Scotsman

By March 27, 2025 No Comments

An article in The Scotsman has underscored the UK’s prominent position as Europe’s largest hub for game development, employing over 25,400 full-time developers and freelancers.

Despite this strength, the piece highlights several challenges our industry faces, including international tax competition, financing difficulties, and increased employer burdens such as rising National Insurance contributions.

The article acknowledges important initiatives, such as the UK Games Fund, which has invested over £12 million in more than 450 companies since 2015. However, it points out that other countries, like France and Germany, offer more substantial support, with grants covering significant portions of project costs. This disparity suggests that the UK must enhance its support mechanisms to remain competitive.

TIGA, the trade association for the UK games industry, is mentioned in the article for its research indicating the UK’s leading role in European game development by headcount, plus our position on VGEC and the value of our University Accreditation.
