DOWNLOAD: TIGA’s Key Information on the UK Immigration System for Games Businesses

By October 23, 2024 No Comments

TIGA, the trade association representing the UK’s video games industry, has published a new information resource about the UK immigration system and how it applies to games business specifically.

The UK’s games sector is a thriving and significant contributor to the national economy and has been experiencing substantial growth and investment. Annual average headcount growth between 2014 and April 2023 has been 9 per cent.

The skills required for many of the positions in the games industry are highly specialised, which attracts a blend of local and foreign talent.

Within the post-Brexit immigration system, there are now multiple visa options open to employers in the games sector, as well as to the overseas employees they wish to recruit, divided between employer sponsored and unsponsored routes.

In conjunction with Fragomen, the world’s leading provider of immigration services, TIGA has created a guide on the UK immigration system as a resource for those specifically working in and recruiting for the UK games sector to outline the available visa options.

TIGA CEO Dr Richard Wilson OBE said: “Employers in the games industry typically prefer to hire employees from the UK. However, games studios also need to recruit from overseas to overcome skill shortages and to assemble the best teams to create the best games. Our new guide to the UK immigration system will provide valuable information for games businesses. I am grateful to Fragomen for their expertise, advice and professionalism in working with TIGA on our immigration guide.”

TIGA’s new guide is not intended to cover every UK immigration route. For more comprehensive advice, please contact Fragomen’s dedicated Games Sector team – Laurence Keir-Thomas (lkeir-thomas@fragomen.com), Steve McCaig (steve.mccaig@fragomen.com), and Asif Hanif (Ahanif@fragomen.com)
