Can your Company Help a Young Person Through their Cancer Treatment?

By July 22, 2015 TIGA News

Teenage Cancer Trust wards are bright cheerful environments in most major UK cancer hospitals that help young cancer patients aged 13 – 24 to get through their often gruelling and lengthy cancer treatment by providing fun activities that help pass the time and make the experience just a bit more pleasant. This makes a big difference when faced with perhaps the most daunting and unexpected challenge in their young lives., one which can cause huge disruption to education or career, and mean separation from family and friends for long periods at a critical time in their lives.

These wards provide lost of activities and, unsurprisingly, technology and gaming are a huge part of this, with many young people depending on these to distract and occupy them through some very difficult times. Many of them are keen gamers and some would like a career in the industry. Some gaming enthusiasts would simply like to engage in something productive and useful while being treated.

Your company may be able to help our young people during and after treatment (when many of them have difficulty getting work and adjusting to normal life again) by offering any of these: –

–       workshops of new or developing games in hospital settings

–       asking young people to trial or give feedback on games that are being developed

–       short work experience placements to some of our young people when they have finished treatment

Any one of these of these could potentially make a big difference to some young person’s experience of cancer. If you think that your company could help in these or any other ways, then I would love to hear from to discuss any ideas you might have.
