A time for optimism and celebration of the game industry’s achievements, says trade body CEO Richard Wilson OBE
TIGA, the network for games developers and digital publishers and the trade association representing the UK video games industry, has congratulated all the winners and nominees at yesterday’s Develop Awards.
The awards took place in Brighton during the Develop Conference, and saw game makers, technology and service providers and individuals recognised across 17 awards and two special lifetime achievement accolades.
“The Develop Awards provided another reason to feel excited and optimistic about the efforts, achievements and future of the game industry, both here in the UK and globally,” said TIGA CEO Richard Wilson OBE. “Companies large and small triumphed thanks to distinct, brilliant and important work, demonstrating the health of the industry, and the value of its contribution to culture and economy.
“While the achievements of every nominee and winner should rightly be celebrated, it was particularly encouraging that Cambridge studio Ninja Theory scooped four awards in relation to its masterful, thoughtful and intelligent release Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. It was also great to see Supermassive Games pick up an award for Gameplay Innovation. Finally, it was wonderful to see EA Motive’s founder Jade Raymond receiving the Vanguard Award, and president of PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida presented with the Develop Legend Award. Both have made a remarkable contribution to games throughout their careers, and have very likely touched or influenced the lives of anyone employed in the industry.”
