The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has announced that 9 new partnerships will bring together expertise from some of the UK’s most prominent businesses and research institutions.
These partnerships have been designed to develop innovations in support of the UK’s key priorities, such as tackling climate change and boosting medical research.
These new technologies will range from 3D imaging accelerating medicine discovery to transforming waste into eco-friendly household products.
Announced on 2 April 2021, the project will be backed by a £75.2 million joint investment from government, business, and academia.
According to the Government, these partnerships will stretch across regions of the UK, from Teesside to Bristol. The Government have claimed that as part of their levelling-up agenda, this project will create products and technologies that can drive economic growth and create highly skilled local jobs.
This government funding is being delivered through the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and forms part of the flagship Prosperity Partnerships programme. The project builds on the government’s commitment to increase investment in research and development to 2.4% by 2027.
