ICO confirms date for their Children’s Code Risk Workshop

By October 28, 2020 No Comments

The ICO have confirmed their Children’s Code Risk Workshop, to take place on Thursday 26 November 2020 between 13.30 – 15.00pm.

Workshop Summary

Attend this workshop to work with the ICO, children’s rights specialists and industry peers to explore approaches for managing data-enabled risks to children and place their best interests at the heart of online services.

The Children’s Code (also formally known as the Age-Appropriate Design Code) ensures online services accessed by children put the best interests of the child at the heart of their service design. It helps organisations to develop services that recognise and cater for the fact that children warrant special protection in how their personal data is used, whilst also offering plenty of opportunity to explore and develop online. On 2 September 2020 the Age-Appropriate Design Code came into force, with a 12 month transition period.

The interactive workshop, delivered in partnership with 5Rights Foundation, will enable participants to:

  • Build understanding of the UN Convention of the Rights of a Child (UNCRC) framework, that defines the “best interests of the child” principles underpinning the code
  • Identify and articulate data-enabled risks to children on their online services, through facilitated group discussion and an interactive risk register exercise

Registration

Places for this workshop are limited, so the ICO have requested that you register your interest in attending by answering a set of short questions by 17.00 on Friday 13 November. This will enable the ICO to ensure a fair mix of participants from as wide a range of organisations and disciplines as possible.

The ICO are open to expressions of interest from two people from the same organisation working in distinct teams/disciplines (for example, engineering and public policy/legal). If you would like to register your interest as a pair, please indicate so in question 6 of the registration questions. Please note there is no need for both participants in a pair to register their interest – one per pair will suffice.

Participants will be notified if they have secured a workshop space on Monday 16 November.

Register your interest by 13 November by following this link, and completing the set of short questions.
