Understanding Studio Financing: TIGA and French Duncan Publish Essential Guide

By September 25, 2017 April 12th, 2019 Press Releases

From Tax Relief and grant funding to accountancy systems and employee share options, a new collaborative publication has your financial questions covered.

A new report jointly written by UK game industry trade body TIGA and accountancy and business insights firm French Duncan offers invaluable financial management advice to game developers of every size and experience level.

The report, Financial Management For Game Developers explores the details of Video Game Tax Relief, attracting investment, grant support, VAT conventions relevant to digital services, employee share options, trends in accounting systems and a great deal more.

“Working with the precise expertise of French Duncan, TIGA developed the Financial Management For Game Developers report to serve as a tool for those looking to make their studio sustainable, profitable and financially robust,” said Dr Richard Wilson, the trade body’s CEO. “Equally, we know game developers want to reward their staff well, and to attract suitable funding to make their ideas become financially viable releases.  There too, out latest publication should be a considerable help.”

“The contribution the game industry makes to the UK culturally and economically is something to be proud of, so here at French Duncan we are only too delighted to support the sector through financial advice,” added French Duncan’s Harald Linklater. “We are continually impressed by the financial acumen of numerous UK game studios, but equally we recognise that many are more interested in the game development than accounting process. With that in mind, we wrote this report to be an accessible, practical guide to let studios plot their financial future while freeing up more time to actually focus on building the next hit game.”

The report is freely available now, and written to be as useful to a CFO with years of financial management experience looking for a refresher as it is to a one-person indie keen to make sure their next release serves as a way to help pay the bills.

Covering regional variation in financial matters, and using detailed examples throughout, Financial Management For Game Developers is written clearly, directly and with no expectation of financial literacy, and as such should provide a lastingly meaningful document to game studios that are looking for something to go back to as their studio itself evolves.
