By September 21, 2017 April 12th, 2019 Press Releases

LAUNCHING NOVEMBER 2017

In an exciting communications partnership, TIGA and ITN Productions are producing a second news and current affairs-style programme exploring the role of the video games industry in the UK and how the sector can continue to succeed in the future.

Video games are a significant part of today’s society, not only within our households, but also in terms of the huge economic and cultural contribution they make to the UK’s economy and society. Around 34,000 people currently work in the games industry, including 12,600 in games development and employment in the sector is growing at over 7 per cent per annum. Skills development and access to finance are more vital than ever and the programme will bring to life how TIGA are working to support the industry’s growth and educate the next generation of developers.

‘The Next Level’ will also explore how the UK is one of the best countries in which to learn about and develop games and show what TIGA is doing to continually push the industry forward.

Drawing upon ITN’s 60 year heritage and expertise in storytelling, the news-style piece will be anchored by Natasha Kaplinsky to combine key interviews and reports with sponsored editorial profiles from leading organisations.

‘The Next Level’ will premiere at the TIGA Games Industry Awards on Thursday 2nd November. The programme will form part of an extensive communications campaign featuring members, industry partners, government partners, as well as relevant journalists, writers and bloggers.

Dr Richard Wilson, TIGA, said: “TIGA’s top priority is to strengthen the UK video games development industry. TIGA’s content partnership with ITN Productions will enable us to showcase the economic, cultural and educational importance of the sector. Our programme will assist in advancing our policy agenda to the government and enhancing our engagement with Ministers, MPs and officials.  ‘The Next Level’ will also highlight TIGA’s key policy proposals: retaining Video Games Tax Relief, introducing a Games Investment Fund, deepening our talent pool and maintaining the ability to recruit highly skilled overseas workers. TIGA is thrilled to be working with the superlative ITN Productions and we look forward to the successful launch of ‘The Next Level’ at the TIGA Games Industry Awards on November 2nd 2017.”

Simon Shelley, Head of Industry News, ITN Productions, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering again with TIGA to create ‘The Next Level’. We look forward to exploring the role video games play on society and the significant contribution to UK GDP. This programme will be a means for the sector to share knowledge and best practice and galvanise others to build a career in the profession.”
