Two decades of success for Abertay marked at the 6th annual TIGA Games Industry Awards

By September 20, 2017 Press Releases

TIGA, the network for games developers and digital publishers and the trade association representing the video games industry, said that UK Universities are an integral part of the success story of the UK video games industry.

Dundee based Abertay University is celebrating two decades since it became the first university in the world to offer a video games course. Abertay will be celebrating ’20 Years of Games’ throughout 2017, and a year-long programme of celebration has been organised, featuring an array of events, workshops, design sessions, talks and tournaments.

TIGA will continue these celebrations by inviting Abertay University to present ‘Best Educational Institution 2017’ at the 6th Annual TIGA Games Industry Awards held at the V&A Museum London on November 2nd, 2017.

TIGA promotes best practice and excellence in education. TIGA achieves this partly through the TIGA Games Industry Awards and partly through the TIGA University and College Accreditation system. The TIGA Accreditation system was set up in January 2015 in order to disseminate and to encourage best practice in universities and colleges and to highlight good courses for students and employers. As of September 2017, 17 courses at the following universities achieved TIGA Accreditation: Anglia
Ruskin (1 course); Bournemouth University (1 course); Portsmouth University (2 courses); Sheffield Hallam University (3 courses); University of the West of England (1 courses); Staffordshire University (7 courses); and City University of London (2 courses).
