TIGA wins
two awards at the Chartered Management Institute’s Leadership and Management
Awards

TIGA, the
trade association representing the UK games industry, has won two awards at the Chartered Management Institute’s Leadership
and Management Awards. TIGA was awarded ‘Outstanding Organisation’ 2011 and Dr
Richard Wilson, TIGA’s CEO, received the accolade of ‘Outstanding Leader’ 2011.

The Chartered
Management Institute’s (CMI) Leadership and Management Awards celebrate the
achievements and expertise of the UK’s best managers and management teams. A
total of 12 CMI Management and Leadership Awards were presented by the CMI at a
prestigious award ceremony in central London. Categories included Outstanding
Leader, Young Achiever and Social Responsibility Management. The Awards judge
organisations, teams and individual managers by looking at criteria including
financial success, governance, people management, communications, ethics,
sustainability and learning. The winners were chosen from a shortlist of 41
finalists from all sectors, nations and regions of the UK. Finalists included IBM,
Birmingham City Council, Centrica, Norton Rose, Tube Lines and the University
of Greenwich.

Speaking at the
ceremony, Dr Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO, said:

“I’m exceptionally
proud of my team – Lorna
Evans, Vanessa Joyce, Suzi Stephenson and Nisha Valand – and what we have
achieved at TIGA. It has been a challenging but exciting time for us and
everyone has worked incredibly effectively to get the organisation into the
position of strength and influence that it is in now. It is a huge honour to
have my role recognised but especially for TIGA to be named Outstanding
Organisation. We are committed to training and developing the skills of our
staff, especially when it comes to management and leadership, which is why
winning two CMI Management and Leadership Awards is such a wonderful
achievement.

“As well as thanking
my team, I would like to thank TIGA’s members and TIGA’s board for their
support. By winning two awards we have demonstrated that TIGA is a high
performing, organisation that is making a positive difference for its members.”

Jason Kingsley, TIGA Chairman and CEO and Creative Director at
Rebellion, said:

“Our goal at TIGA is to build a tenacious,
innovative, growing and ambitious organisation in order to make the UK the best
place in the world to do games business.
We are focused on enabling start-ups and developer-publishers generally
to achieve success. Winning these two awards is a superb achievement and
confirms that TIGA is on track to achieve its ambitious goals. This is a
success which the entire UK games industry can be proud of.”

Mark Gerhard, TIGA board member and CEO of Jagex,
said:

“For TIGA to win these two CMI
Awards is a stunning achievement, reflecting the dramatic improvements that
have taken place over the last year. TIGA is a well-managed, growing,
successful and award winning organisation. Additionally, TIGA is constantly
innovating to support UK game developers and developer publishers. Our
networking events, specially negotiated discounts on third party services, and
best practice information all serve to demonstrate that TIGA is the number one organisation in the UK
serving to advance our talented games development sector. I hope that more
developers will be inspired to join TIGA in the light of its CMI Awards
success.”

Patrick O'Luanaigh, TIGA board member and CEO of
nDreams, said:

 “At TIGA we are
determined to build a strong independent organisation which continually
improves in order to benefit the UK games industry and the economy generally.
Winning these two awards demonstrates to the entire UK games sector that TIGA
is an exceptional organisation that delivers results. I would urge all UK game
developers and developer-publishers to join TIGA in order to work together for
the success of the industry.”
