TIGA welcomes The Computer Games Journal as its latest member

By July 31, 2013 Press Releases

TIGA, the trade association representing the UK games industry, has welcomed The Computer Games Journal as its latest member.

This new small organisation, comprises three people running an online journal. It was turned from a project name into a company only a few weeks ago.

The Computer Games Journal publishes research and articles on new computer games technologies, gaming techniques, games company management and other issues affecting the computer games sector.

The journal exists online, and can be found at www.computergamesjournal.com. The company is also experimenting with publishing the journal on other websites including Scribd.com and Issuu.com. Students, lecturers and developers in the games industry can submit essays, reports and articles for review via the main website.

It is the first computing journal to publish student dissertations and essays.

The firm aims to produce a useful journal, which can be beneficial to games companies and developers. It wants to publish detailed research which means something to the games enthusiast, and contains useful ideas rather than “ivory tower” academic papers of interest solely to academics.

It says there is so much student research which never sees the light of day yet contains useful interviews and computer lab test data. It believes this can be useful for people in the games industry and it is working on a special journal edition which focuses on entrepreneurship in the computer games industry.

The company would like to invite people (games developers and managers) to submit short essays on their experiences of setting up computer games studios and developing unique games products, and on the difficulties which they have encountered when trying to build a business and market their own games.

Dr Malcolm Sutherland said:
“We want our journal to be relevant and useful for people in the games industry, and for students who are training for the industry. TIGA itself conducts extensive games industry research, and its members include developers and managers from within the games industry. We consider entering into such a network to be vital if we are to keep pace with the changes and issues affecting the games industry. We are also in contact with hundreds of students studying computer games development, and we hope that our TIGA membership and networks with TIGA members will benefit students as well (and also vice versa).”

Dr Richard Wilson, CEO of TIGA, said:
“It is great to see a company encouraging more students and people in the games industry to get involved in research. TIGA strongly believes in sharing best practice and this new journal will encourage this activity. It is also good to see that the journal will be looking at entrepreneurship in the games industry. With many new studios being set up, now is the time to share information on building sustainable and successful games businesses. We hope that The Computer General Journal will be a great success.”
