TIGA welcomes Strange Flavour as its latest member as the award winning developer turns 10

By April 9, 2014 Press Releases

TIGA the trade association for developers and digital publishers in the UK has announced award winning game developer and publisher, Strange Flavour, as its latest member, with the news coming just as Strange Flavour celebrates its 10th birthday.

The company won the 2004 Apple Design Award for most innovative product with Toysight, and over the past decade has had hits on Mac, Xbox 360 and most recently, iOS, including the number one best sellers, Flick Fishing and SlotZ Racer.

With its latest game, Any Landing – a crashtastic experience of airborne mayhem – Strange flavor has also successfully made the transition to self-publishing; with the game having more than one million downloads since its launch in February this year.

In celebration of Strange Flavour’s first decade in business, a pair of limited edition aircraft liveries are available in Any Landing for this week only, and can be unlocked by making any kind of in game purchase at all, regardless of the amount.

This reflects one of the company’s key innovations – it’s unique approach to IAP, dubbed ‘Play Nice’, which is also making its debut in Any Landing. The Play Nice system features an ‘All you can eat’ option, which permanently unlocks all optional content. Crucially however, whenever a player purchases any lower priced content, the cost is knocked off the price of the All You Can Eat option. This means the player will never pay more than a fixed amount, and once the player has purchased All You Can Eat, all game content is theirs permanently.

Strange Flavour started life as a part time project whilst brothers Aaron and Adam Fothergill were working at Argonaut Games in 2000. It became a full company in April 2004. Strange Flavour currently has two more games in development for release in 2014 as well as further plans for Play Nice.

Aaron Fothergill, CEO & Lead Coder of Strange Flavour, comments:

“Strange Flavour has been a successful UK based games developer for the last ten years, working with developers, publishers and manufacturers around the world. We feel that joining TIGA is the next logical next step for us, as we look towards the long term future of UK games development as well as more new and exciting projects for Strange Flavour.”

“There’s a lot more we want to do in the next 10 years, from releasing more Mac games to producing some new and updated versions of a few fan favourites, but mostly we want to keep on writing fun games for everyone to enjoy playing. Ultimately we hope being part of the TIGA community will help us achieve this, and keep doing what we love.”

Dr Richard Wilson, CEO, TIGA, added:

“TIGA offers Strange Flavour a warm welcome, as well as sincere congratulations on ten years of success in the UK games industry, which is no mean feat.

“We have developers on our board who are running two-person strong studios, and other board members managing 400 people people or more, just as we have members of all sizes. So it’s encouraging to see companies like Strange Flavour, which already has a great deal of experience and industry connections, recognise the value in joining our community too.

“I’m confident that this experience and insight, which is aptly demonstrated by Strange Flavour’s ‘Play Nice’ approach to IAP, will prove to be of great value to other TIGA member developers and digital publishers.”

About Strange Flavour

Strange Flavour Ltd. is a small UK based independent games developer run by two brothers, Aaron and Adam Fothergill who have nearly 50 years of combined experience in the games industry.

After taking the Mac world by storm with their award winning games Airburst Extreme and ToySight, Strange Flavour have been creating hit iPhone games, including Flick Fishing, published through Freeverse, which was one of the top selling iPhone games of all time and the #1 slot car racing game SlotZ Racer.

Strange Flavour are now publishing their own iPhone games on the App Store, starting with SlotZ Racer 2 and SlotZ Racer Caterham Special and their latest game Any Landing.

For the physicists…

Strange Flavour is named after a sub-atomic particle called a quark. Quarks come in various flavours, such as up, down and rather interestingly, ‘strange’. As has been pointed out to us by some of the physicists out there, there are more than the 4 original flavours of quark than we first believed (We did our physics a *long* time ago). They’re probably adding new flavours of them just to compete with the new ones that the fizzy drinks companies are marketing.
