TIGA welcomes City University London as its latest member

TIGA, the organisation representing the games industry, is delightedto announce City University London as its latest member. 

The university’s
School of Informatics has been offering innovative undergraduate and post
graduate courses for close to three decades.  It is at the cutting edge
in education and research for the information and computing professions. For several years, City
has offered a BSc in Computer Science with Games Technology, as well as an MSc
in Computer Games Technology. 

It has enjoyed success in enrolling and teaching
students in these courses and many of them have gone on to pursue successful
careers within the games industry. The undergraduate and
postgraduate courses epitomise City’s brand: a mix of relevant theory and
practice delivered by seasoned professionals who blend impressive academic and
industry credentials. Its Computer Games
Technology graduates are readily employable and thoroughly grounded in theory
and practice. Alumni are now working in companies like Sony Computer
Entertainment Europe, Playfish and Criterion Software (part of Electronic
Arts). It has staged numerous events featuring external speakers who are
industry leaders and network with the games development community in London.

Dr Gregory Slabaugh, senior lecturer in the department of computer science,
said:
“The
UK game development industry generates an annual turnover of close to £3bn.
Through its provision of trained and highly sought after graduates in computer
games technology, City’s important association with TIGA reinforces the vital
links we have already established within the burgeoning digital and creative
industries in the UK and further afield.”

City University London
has important affiliations with the burgeoning Tech City cluster, the computing
and information science industries, such as the Chartered Institute for IT
(BCS), the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals
(CILIP), as well as Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing in
Data Processing (SAP).
