TIGA welcomes Beartrap Games as its latest member

By December 17, 2012 Press Releases

TIGA, the trade association representing theUK games industry, has welcomed the new start-up Beartrap Games as its latest
member.

Launched in October 2012, Beartrap Games is the creation of four
award-winning and experienced developers who all share the desire to create
great video games that people want to play.

Together, the four Directors have more than 30 years of experience
in the games industry, working across all major gaming platforms, from console
to mobile and from social to PC.

Beartrap Games is focused on creating its own games to be either
self-published or through an external publisher, undertaking work-for-hire
projects and designing prototypes of games and then seeking a platform partner
to fund the project.

Beartrap Games handles all elements of the
game production process including Design, Art, Audio, Programming and Marketing
and it will initially target
the European, North American, and Australasian markets with an interest in
Asian opportunities as well.

The four directors have previously worked together
successfully as employees of Cohort Studios. Following
the closure of Cohort Studios, two of the directors had been undertaking
various freelance projects whilst the other two directors had experienced,
first-hand, further Dundee studio closures. By coincidence, the timing of
studios closing and freelance projects ending, everything started to fall into
place during the month of September.

Grant Alexander, co-founder of Beartrap Games, said:

“When forming Beartrap Game, joining
TIGA was high on our list of priorities.
The support and benefits offered along with the access to networking and
potential for business collaboration make what TIGA has to offer invaluable to
a fresh and ambitious developer studio like ourselves.

“In addition to the individual support, we recognise the significant
contribution TIGA brings to the UK games industry.  TIGA’s vision reflects the values of our new
business and we look forward to growing under their watchful eye. “We congratulate the TIGA team on recently winning their deserved title
of ‘Trade Body of the Year’ and look forward to their continuing success in the
coming year.”

Dr Richard Wilson, CEO of TIGA, said:

“There
is no doubting the credentials of Beartrap Games. The directors have lots of
experience and they have worked across platforms. They have also been handed
many awards from Develop, BAFTA, the Golden Joysticks and so many more. I look
forward to them entering the TIGA Games Industry Awards in 2013 too! The
founders of Beartrap are a fine example of great talent coming together in
tough times to form a positive and exciting new venture that we wholeheartedly
support.”

Beartrap is in advanced discussions with a
number of national and international companies which may result in its first
released title.
