TIGA, the trade association representing the UK gamesindustry, has welcomed news that Amazon is creating a centre for interactive
digital services for consoles and smartphones.
The organisation believes the commitment to the UK shows how
valuable international companies regard talent across Britain.
The studio will be based in London and be spread across
47,000 square feet. Software development engineers, user interface experts and
graphic designers will work on projects for PCs, smart TVs, smartphones and
consoles.
Jason Kingsley, chairman of TIGA, said: “When a major
company such as Amazon makes a massive investment in technology like this, it
has a knock on effect and gives the entire tech sector a boost.
“While it is great that Amazon will draw upon local
talent, it will also, in time, prove to be draw for other companies.
“We have seen how this works in the videogame industry
where clusters of games developers in Dundee, Brighton, Liverpool, Newcastle
and Leamington Spa have come together in one place, learning from each other
and becoming the catalyst for urban reinvention.
“There is no doubt that Amazon's new centre will an
exciting addition for the tech sector in London.”
