TIGA Recognised as an Official Accreditation Body by UK’s Higher Education Statistics Agency

By July 30, 2015 Press Releases

TIGA, the network for game developers and digital publishers and trade association representing the UK videogame industry, has been officially recognised as an accreditation body for undergraduate courses by the UK’s Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).

As a result, HESA has now included TIGA in its official list of approved accrediting bodies, which is referred to as the Key Information Set (KIS) and can be found here.

HESA has recognised that TIGA Accreditation helps approved courses “deliver skills relevant to the games industry”, and that “TIGA accreditation is applicable to courses meeting any of a wide range of games industry needs, such as programming, art, design and entrepreneurship.”

HESA is the UK’s official source of data about UK universities and higher education colleges, and collects a range of UK-wide data every year, from universities, higher education colleges and other differently funded providers of higher education. This data is then provided to UK governments and higher education funding bodies to support their work in regulating and funding higher education providers.

Dr Richard Wilson, CEO, TIGA, comments:

“TIGA’s Accreditation system accredits undergraduate and postgraduate university and college courses, enabling both prospective students and game developers to identify those courses that are producing industry ready graduates. This further endorsement of our programme is good news for students, for education providers and for the wider games industry.”

Dr Mark Eyles, Principal Lecturer/Course Leader, School of Creative Technologies, University of Portsmouth, added:

“I’m very pleased that TIGA accreditation has been recognised as part of the Key Information Set by the Higher Education Statistics Agency.

“Not only does the KIS help students determine the quality of their course, and help educators see what worthwhile accreditation is available, it is also testament to the robustness of the TIGA Accreditation programme itself.

”Thank you to everyone involved with this project for their hard work and on-going support.”
