TIGA raises the standard

By June 26, 2012 Press Releases

TIGA, the trade association
representing the UK games industry, has been presented with a prestigious
national award.

TIGA was awarded the
Investors in People Bronze award for demonstrating a degree of excellence in
the way they develop and support their staff.

The Bronze award is achieved
by just 5.22% of Investors in People recognised organisations in the UK. The
Investors in People Standard is awarded to well-run organisations, which
demonstrate good management practice with a high emphasis on best practice people
management and development.

Recipients of the Bronze award, of which there are some 1,100 in the
country, go beyond the minimum requirements and demonstrate an additional 26 or
more pieces of evidence needed to achieve the Investors in People core
Standard.

TIGA is a uniquely structured organisation: it has one
full time employee and four part time highly skilled contractors. It is also a
virtual organisation with team members working remotely across the UK.

TIGA has
achieved significant progress over the last four years: its membership has tripled;
it was awarded ‘trade association of the year’ by the Trade Association Forum
in 2010 and 2011; and it secured Games Tax Relief for the UK video games and
digital publishing sector in the March 2012 Budget (a measure which effectively
reduces the cost of the games production and so makes the UK more competitive).

Dr Richard Wilson, CEO at
TIGA, said:
“At TIGA we are intent
on building an enduring organisation, the best in its class, and one that
continually improves. I am privileged to work with some extremely talented
individuals who have helped to make TIGA the success that it is today: Vanessa
Joyce, Richard Lee, Suzi Stephenson and Nisha Valand. To have achieved
Investors in People Bronze Level status demonstrates that TIGA is ambitious,
high performing and focused on enabling our members to achieve their potential.
Achieving Bronze Level status IiP confirms that TIGA is on track and is a
reflection of the ability of the TIGA team.”

John
Telfer, Managing Director of Inspiring Business Performance Ltd (IBP), the Investors
in People Centre for London and the South of England, said:
“Being presented
with the Bronze award is a well deserved achievement for TIGA. I would
like to congratulate the organisation and its people on their commitment to
continuous improvement, and encourage other businesses to learn from their
fantastic example.”

Research shows that organisations of any type and
size that adopt a comprehensive approach to people development perform better
than those without, indicated by higher gross profits per employee, higher
profit margins and higher productivity. Companies that have achieved the
Investors in People Standard also have higher levels of trust, co-operation and
commitment than their competitors.

  • The Investors in People Standard provides a
practical framework for improving business performance and competitiveness
through good practice in people management.

  • An
organisation that has achieved the Standard has been successful in adopting and maintaining its
three fundamental principles: Plan – developing strategies to improve the
    performance of the organisation, from business goals to leadership strategies;
Do – implementing those strategies, taking action to improve the performance of
the organisation; Review – evaluating and adjusting those strategies, measuring
their impact on the performance of the organisation.
